Bộ phận sinh dục nữ là một hệ thống sinh lý trong cơ thể nữ giới với nhiều chức năng phức tạp: giao hợp, tiếp nhận tinh trùng, thụ tinh, cấy thai, nuôi thai và sinh con.

Các cơ quan sinh dục phụ nữ nằm trong phần dưới cùng của bụng xuống đến đáy chậu, dưới ruột, trước hậu môn. Âm hộ, xương mu, lông sinh dục, môi lớn và môi nhỏ

- Âm hộ là vùng cơ quan sinh dục bên ngoài, được phủ lông mu khi đến tuổi dậy thì. Ban đầu quanh cơ quan sinh dục xuất hiện vài ba sợi, sau nhiều thêm, quăn hơn, có người chỉ có một dúm lông nhỏ, nhưng cũng có người lông dày và mọc lên cả phía bụng và xuống hai bên đùi, hậu môn.

- Bên dưới da, phần phía trên của âm hộ là một lớp đệm bảo vệ bằng mỡ trùm lên xương mu. Bắt đầu từ bên dưới đệm là một rãnh kép do các nếp da hình vòng cung tạo thành, đó là các môi lớn (còn gọi là môi ngoài) và môi bé (còn gọi là môi trong). Chúng che chở toàn bộ hệ sinh dục, trước hết là âm vật, sau đó là lỗ niệu đạo và âm đạo nằm ở bên dưới lỗ đó.

Âm vật  (Hột Le - Mồng đốc )

- Âm vật hay còn gọi là hột le hay mồng đốc là là nơi tích tụ các đầu dây thần kinh, nên rất nhạy cảm trong tình dục : xoa, vuốt, liếm . . đều đem đến khoái cảm cao độ, cơ quan sinh dục rất đặc biệt, cơ quan này không có một chức năng gì khác ngoài việc cung cấp khoái cảm tình dục. Âm vật có kích thước chỉ bằng hạt đậu, nằm gép trong một nếp mô, ở chỗ hai môi bé gặp nhau. Khi được kích thích tình dục, âm vật cương cứng giống như một dương vật nhỏ.

- Âm vật và các môi là những cơ quan quan trọng đối với phản ứng tình dục của người phụ nữ. Khi có kích thích chúng được nhồi đầy máu xung quanh, căng phồng và ép lên các tuyến nhỏ nằm bên trong các môi bé, khiến tuyến này tiết ra một chất dịch làm ẩm ướt vùng xung quanh và phía trong là lỗ âm đạo. Nhờ các chất dịch này giúp cho dương vật đi vào âm đạo dễ dàng hơn và không gây đau cho người phụ nữ.

Môi lớn và môi nhỏ

Lỗ tiểu

- Lỗ tiểu còn gọi là cửa niệu đạo, là chỗ thoát của nước tiểu từ bàng quang qua ống dẫn tiểu ra ngoài. Lỗ này nằm ngay trên cửa âm đạo, và chừng 2 cm dưới âm vật. Ống dẫn tiểu dài khoảng 4 cm, nằm dọc theo bên trong tường của âm đạo.

Âm đạo

- Âm đạo là một bộ phận hình ống dài nối từ cửa mình bên ngoài vào tử cung bên trong. Các mô cơ thành âm đạo có tính đàn hồi cao. Âm đạo đón nhận dương vật khi giao hợp. Âm đạo và cổ tử cung có khả năng giãn ra lớn gấp nhiều lần, giúp thai nhi ra khỏi người mẹ khi sanh nở.

Màng trinh

- Màng trinh có nhiều loại hình khác nhau. Nó là một nếp niêm mạc mọc ra từ chung quanh âm môn, che phủ lỗ ngoài của âm đạo, nhưng không phải kín bưng như tang trống. Màng trinh có lỗ để máu kinh hàng tháng thoát ra.

Các loại màng trinh

- Hơn 60% trường hợp màng trinh mỏng khi giao hợp lần đầu thì dễ rách và chảy máu. Cá biệt có loại khá dày giao hợp không được, cần phải nhờ thầy thuốc cắt rạch màng trinh. Nhưng đáng lưu ý là có gần 30% các loại màng trinh dai và co giãn tốt, giao hợp không rách nên không ra máu. Hoặc màng trinh hình cầu như dải lụa vắt vẻo từ bên này qua bên kia ở cửa âm đạo, khi giao hợp màng trinh chỉ ép vào một bên chứ không rách nên cũng không chảy máu.
